Sambal Lado Merah Padang is also a type of hot and spicy sambal found in Minang cuisine of West Sumatra, Indonesia. Sambal Lado Merah is made by stir frying ground red hot chillies with other spices including garlic, shallots, lime juice in coconut oil.

The ingredients are quite similar to Sambal Lado Ijo. Unlike Sambal Lado Ijo which is often treated as a separate dipping condiment, Lado Merah chilli sauce is usually mixed and stir fried together with its main ingredients and treated as a dish.

Sambal Lado Merah is suitable for fried prawns, fried anchovies, squid, fish (whole or cutlets), chicken, fried boiled eggs, fried beef (dendeng), eggplant or potatoes and Tofu/Tempe.
